StrengthsQuest™ is a personal journey that begins with the Clifton StrengthsFinder, an assessment tool that reveals a person's top five Themes of Talent (of 34 defined themes) researched and developed by the Gallup Corporation.  The overall idea is that we are all blessed with a set of talents which, when tapped, can help us to achieve excellence.  If we identify, understand and use these talents, we can develop them to the point that they are really strengths.  By applying these strengths (to work, relationships, hobbies, etc.) we will increase our achievements and successes in both quality and quantity.

Having been introduced to the concept of StrengthsQuest™ by a colleague, I was able to:

  • Complete the Introductory StrengthsQuest training.

  • Participate in the MAP StrengthsQuest Mentoring and Advising Program

  • Be recognized as a StrengthsQuest Educator by The Gallup Higher Education Division for completing training and demonstrating an ongoing commitment to individual strengths development and a dedication to building a strengths-based campus.

  • Showcase our campus' ideas and engagement at a highlighted program at the Strengths in Education Conference 2010  at the Gallup headquarters in Omaha, NE.

  • Lead Strengths-based professional development training for students, faculty, administrators and staff.

The StrengthsQuest: Problem Solving and Team Building video (below) demonstrates my work to integrate personal and team leadership skills in a creative, applied environment.

My Signature Themes of Talent

Achiever:  has a great deal of stamina and hard work. Take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.

Belief:  has certain core values that are unchanging.  Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for her life.

Ideation:  is fascinated by ideas.  Able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena.

Individualization:  intrigued with the unique qualities of each person.  Has a gift for figuring out how people who are different can work together productively.

Learner:  has a great desire to learn and wants to continually improve.  The process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites her.

Each of these signature Strengths play a role in my work.  The Learner and Achiever themes combine to enable me to spearhead new initiatives.  I do a lot of reading, research and learning what other colleges are doing and how we can incorporate best practices and innovation.  Ideation enables me to imagine the possibilities of things that have never been.  The ePortfolio Showcase, the G.R.O.W. program and the STEM Scholarship program were all ideas that we were able to develop into programs for students.  It is a commitment to helping individual students, seeing potential in each student, and wanting to help them maximize their opportunities here at LCCC that drives each of these initiatives.  Individualization helps me to see each student, colleague, or client as unique.  Finally, Belief is the undercurrent that drives me to do the right thing.  I believe that each person has a calling, and that it is our job and our privilege to remove barriers and to help them take the next step on their path.  When I see a project as the right thing to do, the Achiever quality helps me pursue it with focus and determination.

So, if you need a partner on a project who can learn new things, imagine strategically sound ways to get something done, customize to the people being impacted or involved, and work diligently to accomplish the task - let's talk.
